Learn along with Super Why!

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

If you’re not already a fan of the PBS smash hit Super Why!, you must not have little kids. It’s hard to resist a show that’s all about a love for learning, reading and fun. And this month is a great time to either renew your adoration for the Super Why! crew or to get acquainted with them; right now we’re in the midst of Super Why! Wonderrific Weeks (careful, that link has video/sound that begins playing automatically), with each week belonging to a different character. Today (Monday, August 10th) kicks off Princess Presto Week!

I always enjoy learning about the the backstory on my kids’ favorite shows. If you want to learn more about how Super Why! was created—did you know it was developed by the women behind Blues Clues?—check out this segment on Fox News. Creators Samantha Freeman and Angela Santomero talk about the show as well as some general philosophy about kids and literacy and television. It’s a really interesting interview, I think.

And if you’re looking for Super Why! toys, well, of course we’ve got you covered. The Super Why! Store here at Ty’s Toy Box is chock-full of newly-released Super Why! toys! The only problem you’ll have is decided which one(s) to buy. I’m a fan of the Wave and Learn Magic Spelling Wand, but there’s lots of great choices. You just can’t go wrong with Super Why!

Edited to add: Through the end of August, check out this Super Why Super Deal—you’ll get a free plush with every $14.99+ purchase!

Celebrate Memorial Day with Super Why!

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

Sure, Memorial Day is traditionally used by many here in the U.S. to mark the unofficial start of summer, or to have the first big barbecue of the season. But little kids don’t care about any of that, so thank goodness that PBS KIDS will be hosting a Memorial Day Super Why! marathon event to keep the small ones happy.

From the site:

This special 2-hour TV marathon features two new episodes and two returning favorite episodes. It also features never-before-seen live-action interviews in-between the episodes in which real kids share their thoughts about what it means to be a hero.

Of course, the only thing that could make the total Super Why! experience even cooler for your kid would be if you scooped up one of our personalized Super Why shirts, but you’re the only one who knows if that’s too much excitement to handle for one day.

And I just noticed that the Alpha Pig to the Rescue shirt comes in adult sizes. I, uh, have to go… do something. Stop looking at me like that.

Here’s to a long weekend filled with the heroes of your choice!

Get ready for Earth Day!

Monday, April 13th, 2009

Earth Day is coming, and that can only mean one thing—you have extra guilt to use as leverage when your kids leave the lights on. Oh, I guess that’s not all it means. But you’re certainly going to want to seize the opportunity to get your kids excited about sharing and caring for our planet, right?

Don’t forget that the U.S. Government has a special page of Earth Day links for kids, to get you started. FamilyEducation.com has some great ideas, too.

Over at the Iddy Biddy Blog, you can read all about the PBS KIDS GO! rev-up for Earth Day, including special themed episodes of many of your favorites, from Curious George to Clifford to Maya and Miguel. And speaking of the Idbids, have you shopped the Idbids Store lately? We have organic cotton Idbids Earth Day shirts ready for personalization; they’re sure to be a hit with your little eco-warrior.

(Of course, we have all of your favorite characters from this month’s eco-themed episodes on PBS here at Ty’s Toy Box, but you already knew that.)

However you choose to get ready for Earth Day, we hope you’ll celebrate!

Super Why! Excitement at Licensing Summit

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending the licensing kick off for hot new show Super Why!

All key partners were in attendance, including their manufacturers and broadcast partners.

I was able to preview all of the hot new products that will be launching in the coming months and it all looks fantastic.

I, of course, was wearing my personalized Super Why! shirt that I purchased at TysToyBox.com :)

Speaking of Super Why, he was actually in attendance.

Me and Why (he is actually much taller than he appears on television)

Super Why! has arrived at Ty’s Toy Box

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

If you haven’t checked out Super Why! on PBS Kids, yet, you and your kids are in for a treat. Like all of my favorite heroes, our protagonist Whyatt (who can transform into hero Super Why!) likes to solve problems with… books! I can get behind that sort of philosophy, being an unrepentant bookworm, myself.

Here’s the opening sequence, to give you an idea of the show:

It’s a pretty catchy little show. I mean, it’s designed for ages 3-6, but my kids (well past that age bracket) have been known to watch it when they’re home sick. Just because the channel got stuck there, they assure me. (I am not fooled. It’s a cute show and they like it.)

So—needless to say—we’re pretty excited to welcome the Super Why! crew to Ty’s Toy Box, where they now have their very own Super Why Store. They’re a great addition to our already awesome family of licensed characters here. Welcome to Ty’s, Super Why – we look forward to seeing your new Super Why Toys.
