Picture it, if you will: The year is 1985. A young teenager is slowly amassing her mall money via babysitting, and some of her clients are on the well-off side. And so within days of seeing a commercial for a teddy bear that actually talks, she arrives one night to sit for one of her regular charges and discovers none other than Teddy Ruxpin there—book at the ready—and she and her charge passed the evening utterly fascinated with the talking bear. It’s even possible that the babysitter continued playing after the kid went to bed, but you can’t prove that or anything. Ahem.
The thing is, back then, this was a technological marvel. And it was the first of its kind, too. We were all amazed by it. And if you check out Teddy’s Wikipedia page you’ll see that he’s had a long and varied life since his debut in 1985. But yes, he’s back, and just as popular as ever. He’s even got his own official site and everything, and even though there’s plenty of talking toys, nowadays, there’s still something special about a snuggly bear who can tell your kid a story, no? It’s not just a creative thinking adventure, it’s a pal who takes their hands and journeys along with them as they go.
To celebrate Teddy Ruxpin’s arrival at Ty’s Toy Box, we’re giving him away! More specifically, we’re giving two lucky Ty’s Toy Box Blog readers a Teddy Ruxpin plus The Airship story cartridge. Wouldn’t you your kids love that? Of course you they would!

I have gone thru 2 Teddy’s already in my years of teaching pre-K. I would love a new one!
I would love this for my special needs classroom!
Awww…I loved my teddy…
very cool!
Oh what memories!! Sign me up.
My boys had one of these growing up and I would love to have one for my grandaughter!
What the heck. . . I’m sure my youngest would LUV it.
My son would adore one of these. We had a Cricket doll growing up instead. : )
I remember the commercials and those moving eyes!
My daughter had a Teddy Ruxpin! And now her daughter has been finding some of the books that went with him. It would be great to have one for her too!
In 1985, I was in kindergarten and every night before bed I would wish on a star for a Teddy Ruxpin. Apparently my parents never knew of my wish and I never got one. They never could have afforded it either…. I am not too damaged from the experience. I also remember doing a play with the other kindergarten classes called “Teddy Ruxpin’s Hot Air Adventure.” LOL! My 4 year old would enjoy this prize and maybe my wishes upon a star would come true 20some years later!
My daughter had a Teddy Ruxpin when she was little and absolutley loved him. I would love to have a Teddy Ruxpin for her daughter.
This was my fav toy when i was little and i just realized they were coming back… my kids would LOVE this… so would i!
count me in!
Back in the 1980’s, we used to have a very self-centered acquaintance that we joked needed a Teddy Ruxpin so she could just talk and talk about herself and have it nod at her all the time.
Now, I could use this to keep my 3-yr-old chatting non-stop to anything besides me.
my kids would flip!
I love Teddy Ruxpin! I grew up with him and I think my little niece would love him as much as I did (do).
My girls have cabbage patch kids. To complete their Ultimate 80s toy collection, they need a Teddy Ruxpin!
my daughter would love this…I never had one, my bro got one but I had gaby the other bear that talked
I never had one when I was a kid, but our “rich” neighbors did and it was highly coveted.
I always wanted one, but never got it. I would love one now to share with my god daughter she would adore it.
Great contest – thanks for the offer!
I love Teddy Ruxpin. Thanks for the great giveaway.
i wanna win me 1 teddy Ruxpin !
ooh me
I was too old the first time around, but my son is exactly the right age.
I had one of these as a little girl. I was 8 in 1985. I LOVED this thing! It was my favorite, along with my CPK’s!
Oh, mercy. I was 12 in ‘85, and was a bit afraid of Teddy Ruxpin. Perhaps now, though, he could entertain my 3 year old for 10 minutes so I could take a shower. For once.
I didn’t have Teddy, but WANTED one… but was a bit old for it at 11 years old… my son ended up with a talking Mother Goose, kind of like Teddy, when he was about 18 months old in 1996. This would be cool.
I definitely remember this coming out, but my kids were way too old for it. I now have grandchildren that would LOVE it!!
I can’t believe he’s back. My son would love him!
Oh my goodness…I was nine in ‘85 and I loved my Teddy Ruxpin with all my heart…My two older brothers were SO mean to Teddy (NOT that I’m still holding a grudge or anything) that he had to go to Teddy heaven. I would love to give this to my now 9yr old and 5 yr old. Wow, how cool.
Oh, oh my! I loved my brother’s Teddy when I was a kid, and was SO jealous that I only had the silly little blonde girl doll that talked. I have a 3 year old that would be so excited by this… I would love to win! Cause if not, I’m just gonna HAVE to go buy it.
I always wanted one. Would love for my little girl to have one. She just a day ago asked for one of those talking animal things at Walmart.
I would love one of these for my daughter – it brings back so many memories.
My niece is at that stage where she drops her jaw in awe at everything the lease bit exciting. Her jaw might fall off if she got to hear a story from Teddy Ruxpin.
Wow! Makes me think of that other song from the 80s …. “Memories….”
I loved this as a kid!
I remember Teddy R. I couldn’t afford one when I was a kid and probably still can’t now but winning one would be SWEET!
I remember the commericals back in the 80s for this!!
It is funny my 17 year old had this toy, and now after 8 children wouldn’t be great to have one again?! I think it is funny how many of you had them for your child and now for a grand child. I still have more babies home to give one to!
JB would adore a Teddy Ruxpin! I’m so glad he’s back!
We didn’t have anything like this when I was a kid, It looks like my wife and I will be raising our 5 year old grandson, I bet he would love it.
